TANGON TAKAA: RADIO HELSINKI’S FEDJA KAMARI WITH SISSI KORHONEN

Tangon takaa is a podcast series done in collaboration with Radio Helsinki and Pelago Bicycles. Fedja Kamari and I had a chat in Finland in April 2018 about cycling in South America. Listen to the podcast here (in Finnish). Now me and Madalina are already in Nicaragua, ready to reach Honduras in a few days.

  • ON THE ROAD AGAIN – CENTRAL AMERICA

ON THE ROAD AGAIN – CENTRAL AMERICA

The journey through Central America with my friend Madalina has started. We’ve now been on the road for two weeks and have had very few internet time. Also, the cycling has taken up all my energy after such a long break off the saddle. I will update the blog as soon as possible, yet for now you can follow the trip on my Facebook page where I post short videos nearly every day. Welcome to follow!

  • NEW BEGINNINGS – BETWEEN SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA

NEW BEGINNINGS – BETWEEN SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA

On January 1st 2018, I landed in Helsinki, Finland, after two years of life in South America. I left my bicycle in Cali, Colombia, and took up a 100-day job in an NGO for people living with hiv in this winter wonderland I occasionally have the privilege of calling home. On the 30th of April I will fly to Panama and continue my cultural exploration of Latin America, by cycling through Central America. In the meanwhile, my blog will occasionally hibernate. (more…)

  • WHAT’S IN MY BLOOD? LET’S FIND OUT!

WHAT’S IN MY BLOOD? LET’S FIND OUT!

Have you ever wondered where your roots are, where your ancestors come from? I sure have. Why? Because A) our family history from my father’s side is quite blurry, B) strangers in Finland often tend to speak to me in English, saying I don’t look like a Finn (whatever that means…) and C) I feel so at home in Latin countries, I wonder if there’s any historic explanation to it (my dad loves to tell the story of a French organ grinder’s blood running in his veins). So, guess what? I’ve decided to do a DNA test! (more…)

13 IDEAS I WANT TO REALIZE… NOW WHAT?

First of all, Strangerless is now a year old, so thank you all for being here! I’m happy that so many ex-strangers have joined me on this continuously evolving journey – a journey which is not nearly as much about me, or about long-distance cycling, as it is about all the inspiring people I meet in this wonderful whirlpool called life. Yet, today, it’s about myself. It’s about the exhausting storm of ideas within me. (more…)

  • I HAVE A DREAM – AND THAT’S DANCE!

    I HAVE A DREAM – AND THAT’S DANCE!

Many people think that crossing a continent by bicycle is living the dream. And it definitely is wonderful! However, it’s personally not my biggest dream in this world. Don’t get me wrong, I do love cycling, yet there are many things I love just as much or even more (rock climbing, paragliding, diving…). And there’s one thing that has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember: dance. (more…)

  • MY LAPTOP BROKE DOWN – SOLUTIONS?

MY LAPTOP BROKE DOWN – SOLUTIONS?

So today, after I’ve just gotten some new, paid writing jobs and after I’ve been happily reunited with my computer after some time offline, the screen of my computer broke down. Is this a sign I should start doing videos? Other suggestions? Now the technology I have with me is a smartphone.

  • SISSI KORHONEN ON ECUADORIAN TELEAMAZONAS

    SISSI KORHONEN ON ECUADORIAN TELEAMAZONAS

In Quito, Ecuador, I gave an interview for Teleamazonas, just before leaving for the coast. The questions have been answered quite many times previously, but never before have I had my answers translated into Spanish sign language! Also, never before has my name been Sisi Koronen (who needs those extra consonants anyway?! Unfortunately, these don’t show on the video). (more…)
