    10 STEPS FOR SUCCESSFUL HITCHHIKING

Just in case there are any first time hitchhikers out there at the moment… This post has been dwelling as a draft of mine for quite a while now, but as I haven’t written anything in weeks and since the theme of this month’s seikkailijattaret.fi magazine is also on the road, I decided to finally publish this simple guide on successful hitchhiking with 10 easy steps. ODE TO THE ROAD, METAPHOR FOR LIFE

There’s something about roads that I’ve always loved. From the very first family road trips in Europe to the time me and my three sisters sat inside a hot van, thighs squashed into each other, on our way to Graceland. There has just always been magic in the air for me in being on the move. HELINÄ RAUTAVAARA: MOTHER OF HITCHHIKING AND LONG-DISTANCE CYCLING

Believe it or not, I’m not the first Finnish female to cycle alone through Latin America in the discovery of local cultures. However, that’s not what this article is about. Because, I did not quit my job to travel. (more…)

    HITCHHIKING: ACROSS EUROPE WITH STRANGERS

If someone told you you could cross Europe for free, while in the meanwhile getting to know local cultures, would you? What if the deal also included meeting wonderful people and seeing places that you just haven’t had the time, money or huge interest to visit? Places that you’d like to see, but for one reason or another, would just never book a plane ticket to go see. Well, good news: you can! As a proof, I went across Europe with strangers. (more…)

  • URBAN HITCHHIKING: WALKING WITH STRANGERS

    URBAN HITCHHIKING: WALKING WITH STRANGERS

Would you like a spontaneous encounter with a stranger in the midst of your day-to-day life? If the answer is yes, then Urban Hitchhiking is for you! Created by urban-space-mastermind Lauri Jäntti and myself, Urban Hitchhiking is all about unexpected encounters in an environment where collective rush often hinders the mental space from extemporaneous meetings with new people – the city.
