CYCLING: INTERVIEW BY MAIARA IN PORTAL PALOTINA

I’m quite sure this won’t be the end of articles written about my long-distance cycling trip in local newspapers, but most probably this will be the one and only article written about it in a Brazilian newspaper, Portal Palotina! And I owe it all to Maiara.

Why? Because during my second visit to Palotina − a small village in the midst of corn and soy fields, in the state of Paraná, Brazil − Maiara (daughter of Celia and Sergio Jacobucci, who took great care of my bicycle while I was gone) wrote an article about me and sent it in for the local newspaper. The newspaper, Folha, was printed out that very same evening, so the editor had to spontaneously change its layout, in order to fit in the improvised article about the Finnish cyclist. So he did, and I received a fresh copy of it (below) before setting off again. For more articles and interviews, click here.

In general, I owe a lot of my Brazilian experience to Maiara. Without her, I wouldn’t have gone to a baile gaúcho, to eat sweet pizza, to a wedding and much more. Soon, she’s off to Europe for a Master in Biotechnology, and I hope she will find similar kinds of people there, who will take her around and involve her in their everyday life. If I’m not around, please treat her like a queen in Europe!

Maiara in Palotina!
